"When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."
- Paulo Coelho
"7 Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven, give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets."
- Matthew 7, NIV
Hello, how are you today?
Are you currently jobhunting? I am.
I am grateful where I am right now, but there just comes a time when you know that you need to get going.
I have been to 3 exam and interview sets already. The first one was rather frustrating. I had to take 2 days off for the exam and interviews. What a waste. I did not get the job.
I am currently waiting for the results of 2 more attempts at jobhunting. I want to just forget about it, but I just can't help but hope for the next call.
Whatever happens, I hope I'm getting some really good stuff from all the effort and the rush. Here are a few somewhat common-sensical things I learned along the way:
1. Know what you really want from a new job (e.g. compensation, benefits, career path, travel requirements/opportunities, flex time).
2. Know what you can offer, your skills, your strengths, your edge compared to other candidates.
3. Know what the job requires and tailor your cover letter, resume and interview answers to those requirements.
4. Research on the company (e.g. size, if it matters to you, company culture). Will it be able to meet your expectations too? You don't want to waste your time applying for a job at a company that you would want to leave asap.
5. If you think that you can give them what they want AND they too can give you what you want, then go for it!
6. During the waiting period, try to think of other things, like how life is just fine even without that desired job. :)
There may be times when you'd feel discouraged. I have been there, but guess what, there's always a bouncing back. I try to hold on to the 2 quotations/promises above. Then I get back in the game, hopeful once again to get that dream job!
