Ask, Seek, Knock
7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
9"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
-Matthew 7:7-12
Thank you Matthew. Hello friends! Today's 'quotation' is a real favorite. In fact, I have already posted something about it here. It's the type that could get you what you want! Haha!
I consider this a promise that I can claim everyday. :) You too can consider it a promise that you can claim everyday! If you're the type who doesn't want to be called 'naive' in any possible way, you could at least think of it as a philosophy, a strategy that you could try.
I've tried it before. There were times when I got what I wanted. There were also times when I didn't get what I want, but there must be a really sensible reason why some things are not given to you, like your life would be better off without it.
However, a brief warning on asking:
2You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. 3When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
-James 4:2-3
Wow, what a counter quotation! Really drags the excitement level to nothing James! In fairness to James, it also makes sense. As we tend to become selfish beings sometimes, good luck with the asking. So what now?
I choose to still keep on asking. Who knows? Maybe I'm not really asking with a wrong motive. Maybe what I'm asking for is actually for the greater good!
Here are 4 Tips on Asking:
1. Ask specifically.
When you ask for something, first, know what it is that you truly want. Ask yourself, what is it that you really want? Ask specifically. You don't want to get a pink beetle when what you really want is a red truck! Or vice versa.
2. Ask big!
You don't want to get a small paycheck when what you need is a big one.
3. Ask with the right motives.
Think of James's thoughts above. Consider, are you being selfish? Greedy? Or vain perhaps? Add more checks to this list.
4. Do what you can do to get what you want.
Be practical. Maybe what you're asking for is just within your reach. Or is something that you can actually achieve yourself. Or is something that needs you to do your part accordingly. You can't just ask for a good marriage and not be loving towards your spouse. Come on now!
All right now. How about an exercise?
1. Ask specifically. Right now, as this site is new, I need an online network. I need links, links, links!
2. Ask big! How about 100 links, for starters? Good luck to me!
3. Ask with the right motives. Maybe this is actually a win-win situation for everyone.
4. Do what you can do to get what you want. So here's what I'm doing dear friends. I'll knock on your online doors and ask for 2 types of link exchanges.
Link 1: I'll be providing links to your site via my Blogs of Note gadget at the right side so that people can visit your site when they go to mine.
Link 2: I will also add a link to your page via this post. I suspect that this type of link, whatever the SEO people call it, is the type that increases your website rank in Google and Alexa. :)
A win-win situation right? Are we talking now? Buzz me if you're interested. :)
Many may say no, but somebody will say yes!
