Daily Life Quotation: "Hard work is the price we must pay for success. I think you can accomplish anything if you're willing to pay the price."

"Hard work is the price we must pay for success. I think you can accomplish anything if you're willing to pay the price."
- Vince Lombardi

I had a tough day at work today. From what I have pieced together from my eavesdropping :), I think my boss is not satisfied with the work I am delivering now. I am currently at day 12 in my new job by the way.

I could think of a lot of excuses for this. Two of which are:
1. I thought I was supposed to be still undergoing self-training. My actual work has not really started yet, so please evaluate my work once it has actually commenced.
2. I believe I have delivered all that I was assigned to do during these past 12days. Are there other things that I am expected to deliver?

I could list a lot more of these but will it really do me good?

I have recently watched (again) the movie "The Devil Wears Prada". There was a scene there when Andrea (Anne Hathaway) was complaining to a colleague about her boss. This colleague she complained to actually gave a great advice. I can definitely use it at times like now. He said that Andrea was actually whining! (You have to watch the movie to get a better picture. :) )

So I choose to be proactive on this one. So here's my plan:
1. I plan to speak to my immediate supervisor (team leader) about the things that are actually expected of me in this new job. The more specific, the better. I got a one-line job description in my contract. Now it's time to ask for elaboration.

"If words of command are not clear and distinct, if orders are not thoroughly understood, the general is to blame. But, if his orders are clear and the soldiers nevertheless disobey, then it is the fault of their officers."
- Sun Tzu, The Art of War

2. I plan to be really excellent in whatever task I am given and yes, to impress my currently-not-so-impressed boss.

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
- Ecclesiastes 9:10

Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
- Colossians 2:22-24

Okay, I believe I now have the right mindset. Now comes the hard part. Acting on it. I will now proceed with studying and learning all the other things that I need to learn in that new job as fast as I can.

How about you? What challenges are you facing now? Whatever it is, start with the right mindset. Prayers come in handy too and produce results. Until next post, keep living life to the fullest. :)
